Moving to a new PC requires you to start over when configuring Windows, but the transition can be easier with the option to restore important Windows settings and configurations. While Windows 10 and 11 come with an embedded backup solution, it uploads backups to the cloud without providing the ability to save backups locally. With that in mind, developer Appcopier has created an open source alternative that can safely save applications and Windows settings offline.

Appcopier is a lightweight application that needs further improvements but the idea behind it seems appealing to many. Furthermore, there is no installation required, which makes it even more attractive for those looking to back up their Windows settings and preferences. Appcopier can backup your Windows configuration offline, starting with personalization settings (themes, default application modes, color popularity, transparency, etc.) set the taskbar (alignment, size, layout, widgets, etc.). Privacy settings can also be exported, making it easier to configure your new copy of Windows with personalized tips, ads, and recommendations. App privacy settings can also be saved.

How does it work? Pretty simple! Only registry entries and/or associated folders and files of the respective region are exported. This process is very fast and light, like the weight of a fly. So don't be surprised if the first backup passes in the nanosecond range. In the future, I can envision adding a more dynamic option in the form of a script/plugin where even more complex things can be backed up.
