Madrona Labs Sumu is a newly released audio synthesis software for Mac and Windows that features a combination of additive synthesis, FM (frequency modulation), and vector field spatialization, providing a unique approach to sound design.

Sumu's unique architecture represents sampled audio as a collection of up to 64 independently adjustable parts, each with its own frequency, amplitude, and noise profile that can evolve over time. This allows for advanced operations such as natural time stretching, independent splitting and pitch shifting, and the creation of complex, evolving textures that go far beyond traditional sample-based or wavetable synthesis.
