SmartSynchronize 4.6.3
SmartSynchronize is a cross-platform tool designed to compare and synchronize files and folders. It supports features such as file and folder comparison, 3-way merge with editable file contents, and smart synchronization that synchronizes folder structures. It is optimized for use with software project folders and allows for customizable filters, saved configurations, and command line interface control. However, it is not designed as a remote backup or synchronization tool and lacks a graphical user interface, being primarily managed via the command line.
SmartSynchronize Features
File Manager
The two-pane file manager ("commander") can be used to easily select files and folders for comparison, as well as for everyday file tasks. You can copy, move, delete, pack and unpack archives (zip, tar.gz are supported directly, 7z requires 7z executable), view, open in editor or terminal, search for files by name or content.
Compare Files
The Compare Files tool is capable of detecting line changes and the compared files can be edited. Of course, the change color will update automatically while editing. The buttons in the middle change strip can be used to move the entire block of changes from one file to another.
You can configure the encoding used for reading and writing, whether whitespace or line numbers should be shown, whether whitespace changes should be ignored, or how line changes should be detected. You can also export the colored view as an HTML file.
To support comparing files from different operating systems, SmartSynchronize allows you to change the encoding used to read and write files separately for both files. SmartSynchronize writes edited files with line delimiters remembered, so it doesn't matter which platform you edit the compared files on.
Compare Folders
Compare Folders allows you to compare two directory structures of your local file system. Directory structures are displayed as a single structure; files and directories are only available within a partially displayed directory structure. To give you a quick overview of the changes, the number of lines added, deleted, and modified is displayed for each file.
A preview pane at the bottom of the window allows convenient navigation between changes. It lets you review detailed changes without having to open a separate Compare Files window for each file.
3-Way Merge
3-Way Merge is an important extension of Compare Files. It helps you merge two independent changes to a base file — often the result of two people making different changes to the same file.
